What does it truly mean to worship God? Genesis 4 pulls back the curtain on one of the most sobering stories in all of Scripture -- the account of Cain and Abel -- and what it reveals about the human heart is as relevant today as it was at the dawn of human history. We see two brothers, two offerings, and two very different heart postures before God. The lesson is striking: God is not impressed by religious activity alone. He looks past the offering and straight into the heart of the one bringing it. Hebrews 11:4 tells us that Abel's sacrifice was accepted because it was offered in faith, while Cain's was rejected not because of what he brought, but because of who he was when he brought it. This challenges us to ask a deeply personal question -- when we gather, when we give, when we sing, are we truly worshiping, or are we simply going through the motions? True worship is faith-filled, God-centered, and obedient. And the good news woven through this difficult passage is that we do not come to God on our own merit.
